Service

Some ways I have helped and how you can too.

Serving your community can come in any forms: recycling instead of throwing out your trash, participating in school, voting in a local election, or serving food at a homeless shelter. No matter how big or small, those actions can possibility resonate with someone and bring them to do the same. It causes a ripple effect that will permanently better your community.

I have made it one of my main goals to serve my community and inspire others to do the same. Although serving others is the right thing to do, seeing a smile one someone else's face is enough motivation for me. That is why I founded Do Unto Others (DUO). It is an easy and fun way to serve my community, Locust Valley/Glen Cove, and you can read more about it on the Community Page or DUO's website here. Although it might be difficult to start out, you can read about WaveMakers such as Francis who have outlined steps to achieving your service goals.

It might seem daunting at first, but I recommend starting small: maybe smiling at people you walk by or helping your friend with homework. Any way you help somebody else out is service and although it won't change the world, it makes somebody else happy. From there, it is a good idea to find your passion, for me it was homelessness, and do research into how other people in your community have tried to make a change -- such as Francis. Getting help from others is necessary to being successful and will only serve to benefit your community.

Overall, I look to service as a form of inspiration for my life, and I hope that I can inspire you to make a change in your community.
